The Rooster and the Pearl
One of my all time favorite fables. This rooster, see, espies something in the hay. He realizes what it is and announces that he doesn't want it even though he recognizes that it is prized by others. The rooster would rather have a single kernel of wheat than an entire peck of pearls. The moral that I took away from the story is that it doesn't matter how much something means to everyone else, it's what's important to you that counts. That's a tough one these days, considering how difficult it is to drown out the din of of commercialism and the sensationalist, "fast food" information highway. So, there you have it. I'd rather have a skein of yarn...or a hank of yarn...or a cake of yarn...or a little rolled up ball of left over stuff that I just know is going to be useful for something, someday...
